Your time and caring heart is what survivors need in their most vulnerable moments.
Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteers are utilized in a variety of capacities to support each organization’s needs. Volunteer opportunities include short-term, one-day projects as well as activities that involve more extensive training and longer term commitments.
All volunteers must complete an application, interview, criminal background check, and training before participating. Volunteer training is offered at each agency several times a year and is designed to provide trainees with a wide variety of interactive learning experiences revolving around domestic and sexual violence, crisis intervention and helping skills.

Crisis Intervention and Hotline Advocate
Volunteers provide support and resources to survivors and their loved ones when individuals contact our 24-hour crisis hotline. Volunteers are trained to offer compassionate support, provide referrals, and assist with shelter placements throughout the Greater Richmond Region.
Hospital Advocate (RHART)
On-call volunteers with our Regional Hospital Accompaniment and Response Team (R-HART) provide information, referrals, and support to survivors in the emergency room who have just experienced a domestic or sexual violence crisis. Volunteers are ready to accompany survivors who seek services from any one of the seven area hospitals we support.
Children’s Program
Volunteers work directly with children providing child care, tutoring, after-school programs, story hours, crafts, games and enrichment activities for children whose parents are participating in agency programs.
Outreach and Special Events
Volunteers provide support with staffing tables at community events and trainings related to our services, and may also assist with speaking engagements throughout the community.
Administrative Support
Volunteers provide support with a range of projects, including sorting donations, organizing the food pantry, making purple ribbons for Domestic Violence Awareness Month, stuffing envelopes, answering phone lines, and supporting the front desk.
